Miss Cox's Week of June 7-June 11

Students will be continuing Science this week. They will be finishing
up working in their
groups Monday, and they will be presenting on Tuesday and Wednesday. The
presentations will be on the 8 planets, Pluto, comets, asteroids, and
meteoroids. The project will be completely done in school, but be
prepared to possibly send in some supplies.

Miss Cox's Week of May 24-28

Students will be continuing Science this week. We will be learning
about why we have seasons and why the Moon changes its appearance.
Please keep an eye out at night for clear skies. Look at the stars and
especially at the moon. Students, tell your parents about what you are
learning. Parents, I know some of you have telescopes at home; take
them out and enjoy some time outside with your children. Also, please
remember that the Chapter 15 Social Studies project is due Friday. Let
me know if there is anything special that you need if you are doing a
presentation.

Miss Cox's Week of March 15-19

Students will be continuing Health for the next few weeks. This week,
we will be doing a unit on nutrition and exercise. Please be aware
that your children will be completing a daily journal of their food
intake, including specific amounts. Please encourage them to make wise
choices in their food consumption. Your children may also come home
with questions about anorexia and bulimia. Please talk openly with
them about the dangers of such actions. There are many resources
available online. If you feel that your child may be struggling with
one of these diseases, or may have an unhealthy obsession with food,
please contact me or a doctor to stop the problem before it worsens.
Please be in prayer as we discuss these difficult topics.

Miss Cox's Week of March 8-12

Students will be continuing Social Studies early this week with the review on Monday and the Chapter 10 test on Tuesday. This week, we will also be doing a unit on drugs and alcohol. Please be aware that your children will ask to do research and printing on the computer. They also have access to computers during their recess if they are unable to do so at home. Your children may also come home with questions about drugs and alcohol. Please talk with them about the dangers of such substances and encourage them to make good decisions.

The students will be taking a grammar test to cover Unit 3 and all previous information on Tuesday, January 26.

The students will also be writing their first persuasive writing speech as they prepare for a mock election. Ask them what I'm talking about!

We are continuing to read The Janitor’s Boy in literature and apply the skills we discussed in the first part of the year. We will begin to look for different of story elements as we read. This past week we looked at personification, simile, and metaphor.

Some students really struggled with the jingles test this past week. If your child doesn’t have the jingles memorized, the application that we do in our daily assignments will continue to be difficult for them.
There is a cool word quiz on Wednesday of this week. Please make sure your child is prepared for this.
We are continuing to read The Janitor’s Boy in literature and apply the skills we discussed in the first part of the year. We will begin to look for different types of story elements as we read. Some of these will be old and familiar to the students and others will be new.

Ms. Reid's info for January 11-15

The final grammar test of the quarter is on Tuesday. It is simple a test that requires the students to recall information that they have been learning over the past months. This will be worth a significant amount of points so it should help those students who have been working hard in class but struggling with the concepts to improve their grade.

We began reading a new story in literature this week. As with most reading assignments, most of the work will be completed in class. The students will be given a chance to complete things at home if they need a little extra time, but the assignments will not always be in the agenda since they are designed to be class work.
