We will continue looking at how different words can fulfill different roles within simple sentences. The students have learned several new jingles and will be tested on those in two weeks. Please have them study the jingles each night. The main elements that we will add to our grammar study this week are helping verbs and possessive adjectives. The students should be studying the notes on pages 4 and 5 of their interactive notebooks.
We will continue to explore the basic elements of literature while also while reading The Rumpelstiltskin Problem. We will use the small group model for exploring the next chapter. As we complete this chapter we will look at the complex skill of comparing and contrasting in writing using the Venn Diagram.
Homework Assignments:
Please check the assignment book nightly for assignments in the coming week.
Stuff Folder: You should have signed the Cool Word Quiz that was given on Monday of this week. This is a culminating activity for words that are given on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the students study their jingles each evening, you should also have them study these words. In two weeks, we will have a test over the five words that were on the quiz along with five new words that will be given over the next two weeks.
Absences
If your son or daughter is absent, please remind them to check with me during lunch/recess of the following day. We will not have time during class to discuss items that were missed or for me to reteach concepts.
In the event that school is canceled, please check the language arts web site that is on the pink paper in the front of their assignment book. Daily lessons and assignments can be found there.
